Eligibility:

Category 1

Students qualified in CSIR/UGC – JRF/Lectureship examinations and having valid CSIR/UGC fellowship or DST/DBT/ICMR fellowships etc. would be admitted to the doctoral programme leading to Ph.D degree and would be allowed to register for Ph.D programme in AcSIR or in state universities.

Category 2

Students who have KSCSTE fellowships can be admitted for Ph.D. programmes and will be permitted to register under the Universities in the State of Kerala.

Category 3

  • (a) Science Postgraduate students having (i) CSIR-Senior Research Fellowship or (ii) a minimum period of one-year experience in any of the R& D projects at CSIR-NIIST who have qualified GATE/NET(Lectureship) or (iii) a minimum period of one year of experience in any of the R& D projects at CSIR-NIIST with one publication in International peer reviewed journal or one patent filed are allowed to register for the Ph.D. programme in AcSIR.

  • (b) Engineering Postgraduates students with (i) CSIR-Senior Research Fellowship or (ii) qualified GATE and working in any of the R&D projects at CSIR-NIIST or (iii) having one year experience in any of the R& D projects at CSIR-NIIST with one publication in International peer reviewed journal or one patent filed are allowed to register for the Ph.D. programme in AcSIR.

    However Supervisor of the student working in the R& D projects at CSIR-NIIST will take active interest in finding an alternate source of funding in case of discontinuation/termination of the project from which the Project Assistant is being funded at the time of enrollment for Ph.D’. (Refer: AcSIR Ordinances).

Category 4

  • (a) The students having confirmed DST -Inspire fellowships will be allowed to register for the Ph.D. programme in AcSIR.

  • (b) The students having provisional DST-Inspire fellowship have to be interviewed by three members committee. The selected candidate will be permitted to join provisionally in CSIR-NIIST and submit the research proposal to DST. They may be permitted to register for the Ph.D in AcSIR after only receiving confirmed DST -Inspire fellowships.

Application Procedure

  • The students with valid fellowships are admitted for Ph.D. programmes through the AcSIR for the sessions starting in January or August sessions and the students are advised to apply through the AcSIR website when the call for is made.

  • The students with valid fellowships are also admitted during April and October of every year. The candidates seeking admission to Ph.D. programme and eligible under category 1 & 2 should apply to the Director, CSIR-NIIST along with supporting documents such as CSIR/UGC NET/DST/ICMR/DBT/KSCSTE Fellowship Award Letters, attested copies of the Marks cards, CV etc. A three-member assessment committee will evaluate the JRF candidate seeking the Ph.D. admission directly with CSIR/UGC NET / DST/ ICMR/ DBT/ KSCSTE Fellowship.

Admission Procedure

  • The applications if found suitable would be forwarded to the respective divisions for assessing the suitability of the candidate vis-à-vis mandate of the division. Only selected candidates would be called for the interview and allowed to join for the Ph.D programme in respective divisions. Director, CSIR-NIIST will have all the powers in the selection and assignment of the candidates to any divisions.

  • The students will be provisionally admitted on production of valid score cards of CSIR/UGC or provisional fellowship letters from DST-Inspire/KCSTE after three-member assessment committee evaluation. It is to be noted that the admission will be confirmed after producing the final award letter for fellowship.
